Based in Edinburgh, the multi-award winning Scottish musician and solo-filmmaker Alan Emslie set up ‘Somnambulistic Films & Music’ to create thought-provoking films with stimulating music.
Alan’s first film, entitled ‘Somnambulistic’ was filmed in France, Norway, Iceland and Scotland and is an exploration of ‘black’ and the way in which light reflects and reacts with it, with special reference and homage to the great French artist Pierre Soulages.
The film was made as though the viewer is walking through an art gallery, carefully letting the images suggest meaning.
All the music in the film ‘Somnambulistic’ is performed and recorded by Alan Emslie and includes works by J.S.Bach, Exowst Scotland, Plastic Noose, Joby Longyin and Alan Emslie.
‘Somnambulistic’ will be released here on October 24th 2026.
